Gone World

An environmental concept art and illustration piece based on a story excerpt we were assigned for one of my uni classes. I had an insane amount of fun researching and painting the deer skull! Fortunately there is a wealth of great reference for deer bones on the internet! For this piece I really focused on rendering the different textures and properties of the scene. I also tried to convey a narrative through my use of colour and light - emphasizing the copper wire adorning the deer skeleton and connecting that to the ominous shed in the centre of the frame.

Environments are something I need to spend a lot more time studying, and this piece was an excellent opportunity for practice! And it only slightly murdered me in cold blood!

I've been using Blender more and more to work out the perspective for my illustrations, so it was fun to go back to the basics for this piece (ie manually delineating the horizon line and vanishing points)
